We relate from the book of at-Tirmidhi with a weak isnad from Ibn ‘Umar (May Allah be pleased with him), who related that when the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) heard the sound of thunder or a thunderbolt he would say:
Dua in Arabic
اَللّٰهُمَّ لَا تَقْتُلْنَا بِغَضَبِكَ، وَلَا تُهْلِكْنَا بِعَذَابِكَ، وَعَافِنَا قَبْلَ ذَالِكَ
Transliteration
Allahumma Laa Taqtulnaa bi Ghazabika wala Tuhlikna bi Azabika wa 'Afina Qabla Zalika
Urdu Translation
اے اللہ ہمیں اپنے عذاب سے قتل نہ کر اور اپنے عذاب سے ہمیں تباہ نہ کر اور اس سے پہلے ہمیں معاف کر دے
English Translation
O Allah, do not kill us with your punishment, nor destroy us with your torment, and forgive us before that.
