Confirmation by Saudi Arabia Supreme Court
The Saudi Arabia Supreme Court confirmed the beginning of Dhul Hijjah on Sunday. According to the Umm al-Qura calendar, June 19, 2023, was determined as the first day of Dhul Hijjah, coinciding with the sighting of the crescent of the month of Dhu Al-Hijjah.
Important Dates: Arafat Day and Eid Al-Adha
The Court further announced that Arafat Day, the ninth day of Dhu al-Hijjah, will be observed on Tuesday, June 27, 2023. Subsequently, the blessed occasion of Eid Al-Adha will be celebrated on the following day, Wednesday.
Paid Holidays for the Private Sector
To commemorate Arafat Day and Eid Al-Adha, the UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has declared a paid holiday for the private sector. The holiday period will span from June 27 to June 30, allowing for a six-day break for those with a Saturday-Sunday weekend. Employees will resume work on Monday, July 3.
Holidays for Federal Ministries and Public Sector Employees
In alignment with the private sector, federal ministries and public sector employees will also enjoy a similar number of holidays. Arafat Day and Eid Al-Adha holidays will extend from the 9th to the 12th of Dhul Hijjah 1444, according to a circular issued by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR).
